We should remove barriers to trade, DRC envoy urges

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ambassador to Tanzania Jean-Pierre Mutamba has promised to cooperate with the government to remove various trade barriers between the two nations purposely to strengthen the national economy of both.

The commitment was made in Dar es Salaam yesterday during a ceremony to welcome the Ambassador held at the DRC Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
“I will sit with President Jonh Pombe Magufuli purposely to discuss the best ways to up trade between Tanzania and Congo as well as how it can be used to raise the national economy of the two countries,” the ambassador explained.

Ambassador Mutamba also promised to continue strengthening the existing good relationship between Tanzania and Congo, pledging to work under President Magufuli’s slogan of ‘Hapa Kazi Tu’, which means ‘Work Only, Nothing Else’ in Kiswahili.

The new ambassador said he will also present challenges brought about by VISA challenges to President Magufuli in order to put in place the best procedures to help traders from both countries to acquire them immediately.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of Congolese Traders living in Tanzania, Mukendi Kabobu, explained that they faced many challenges, including the delay of their cargo at the Dar es Salaam port, which forces them to incur more costs when paying storage fee.

Traders called upon the discussions on how a dry port can be built in Dar es Salaam that would help to reduce some barriers and straighten their businesses. The chairman of the Congolese Community in Tanzania (CCT), Mafimbo Mandwari, proposed that the two countries relax visa regulations because the movement of people between the countries had a positive impact on the economy for both sides.

he CCT has also praised the good work of President Magufuli and promised to provide full cooperation with him in order to bring about more development.
